At Look Local, we believe whole-heartedly in the strength and importance of strong community involvement and charitable contributions.  We are proud to have created a fantastic partnership over the past several years with Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County and Greater Apopka, Florida, Inc.

Each year, the Seminole County branch of Habitat for Humanity partakes in the nationwide Women Build program.  This platform is designed to encourage women to come together to form a build team, fundraise through the support of family, friends and colleagues, and devote a day on the designated build site physically contributing to the construction or renovation of a home.

Look Local is honored to participate in this program by leading and coordinating a build team of 18 local business women in the Central Florida area.  Our team, named “Wondrous Women” is spearheaded by Carla Hogan, whose dedication to the success of this campaign coupled with the efforts of each team member will ensure we reach our fundraising goal.

This year, the Women Build project that our team will be contributing on is a renovation in Oviedo for the Conway Family, who will be purchasing the home through Habitat once complete.  The date range for the build is May 2 – May 9.

Currently, Look Local’s team has raised $4,500 towards our $5,000 goal for 2015 and we have just surpassed our total amount contributed in 2014!

Look Local’s FREE Non-Profit Advertising Program

How it started:

As with any print advertising publication, it is not uncommon for Look Local to have some unsold space at the end of each month, prior to printing.  When we first began Look Local, we learned that some of our competitors would use that extra space to approach businesses with discounted rates for them to place a one-time last minute ad.

We quickly determined that we were not interested in this approach, as it devalues our product and does not promote the concept of repetition and consistency that we strongly believe is the foundational key for a business to find success in any advertising campaign.  In addition, we found it unfair to our existing advertisers if we were to sell the same space to another business for less money.  So what would we do with this extra space that we would inevitably have?

How it Works:

We created a program specifically designed for 501c3 non-profit organizations.  Any 501c3 can supply Look Local with a ¼ page ad, which we keep on file, and run – free of charge – any time there is extra space at the end of a month.  To date, Look Local has donated over $15,000 worth of complimentary ad space to charitable causes.
